Dan 's Fiftieth Birthday

Dan 's Fiftieth Birthday

My dearest husband, Dan, was born in Bossier City
Louisiana to an Air Force couple whose kitty
Was small but whose love for family was immeasurable!
He grew up all over the place and when it was possible
He would travel with his family to northwestern Pennsylvania
To visit his beloved Granpa and other relatives, some peculiar
Some familiar. For three years of his growing up life, Spain
Was his home and he had remarkable memories of the stained
Glass windows in the Catholic Churches and Cathedrals there.
He always went to Sunday School and said The Lord's Prayer.
His high school years were spent in Indian Head in Charles
County, Maryland. He was a normal teenager who had quarrels
With his parents and yearned for freedom and independence.
He had a summer job at an amusement park running a game of chance.
He also sold soft serve custard and worked for Mr. Hardesty
At B & J Carryout. There, he learned that hard work and honesty
Were honorable values and being your own boss was better
Than working for someone else. Dan received his draft letter
And did not have to enter the war as he was enrolled in a college.
Not satisfied working as a plant operator with sewage and sludge
He attended the massive Maryland University, College Park to major in
Civil Engineering. He worked at Roy Rogers where i first met him.
Today, Tuesday, September tenth, Two Thousand Two
Dan would be just halfway in fullfilling his dream of living to
Be one hundred years young. He unselfishly spent
The last four fleeting weeks of his prayed and longed for life bent
On doing just that- Fully and faithfully living!
Dan prayed fervently and fought ferociously to live, giving
Generously to his loving family his contagious confidence
In our God's Divine mercy and Providence.
As evil's cancerous plan rapidly conspired
I amorously admired and was immensely inspired
By Dan's strength, steadfast courage, faith, and devoted love for us.
I pray he will have a happy fiftieth birthday in Heaven with Jesus.
